The BC Recovery Benefit Arrives on December 18th

Your government is working hard to make life easier during these challenging times. Starting on Friday, December 18th, eligible British Columbians can apply for up to $1000 of assistance.

BC Recovery Benefit will be available to approximately 3.7 million British Columbians.

  • $1,000 for families with incomes under $125,000. Families earning up to $175,000 will qualify for the benefit on a sliding scale. Single parent families also qualify for these benefit amounts.
  • $500 for single people earning less than $62,500. Single people earning up to $87,500 will qualify for the benefit on a sliding scale.

Eligibility:

Generally, the benefit is available to:

  • People residing in British Columbia on December 18, 2020
  • People who are at least 19 years old on December 18, 2020, or meet specific eligibility criteria
  • People who filed a 2019 Canadian personal income tax return, or meet specific eligibility criteria
  • People who have a valid social insurance number, individual tax number or temporary tax number
  • Families with incomes under $125,000. Families earning up to $175,000 will qualify for the benefit on a sliding scale. Single parent families also qualify for these benefit amounts.
  • People who are single earning less than $62,500. Single people earning up to $87,500 will qualify for the benefit on a sliding scale.

What you’ll need to apply:

  • Your net income amount found on line 23600 of your 2019 tax return’s Notice of Assessment and if applicable, your spouse’s 2019 income tax Notice of Assessment;
  • Your social insurance number, individual tax number, or temporary tax number
  • Your drivers license number (if you have one)
  • Your direct deposit information (found on your cheques)
    • Branch (Transit) Number
    • Institution Number
    • Account Number

When can I apply or get more information?

People can apply online starting on Friday, December 18. You can get more information here: gov.bc.ca/recoverybenefit

People who wish to apply by phone or ask questions by phone can call 1-833-882-0020 starting on Monday, December 21 between 7:30AM and 5:00PM Mondays to Fridays except for statutory holidays. We strongly recommend that individuals apply online if they are able to.
