New online application speeds up service for landlords and tenants

A new online application to file for dispute resolution will make it easier and faster for B.C.tenants and landlords to resolve tenancy issues.

Recently launched by the Residential Tenancy Branch, the redesigned application will guide the applicant through the process to make sure they are providing the right information. This will help avoid adjournments and dismissals due to incomplete or incorrect applications.

Province steps up with modular housing for the homeless

People will soon have access to safe, affordable housing thanks to a provincewide program to help municipalities tackle homelessness. The program will provide hundreds of new modular housing units in communities from Vancouver to Surrey to Smithers, Premier John Horgan announced today.

“People can’t begin to feel safe and secure until they have a place to call home,” said Horgan. “We’re partnering with local governments to help those who don’t have a home, to help them live in dignity and give them a chance at a better life.”

A visit will get you thinking: October is Library Month

The Province has declared October as Library Month ― a chance to recognize and celebrate the value libraries deliver to communities throughout B.C.

Learn a language, attend a speaker series, test out new technology, access free internet, borrow early literacy kits or family recreation, museum or art gallery passes; these are just a few of the varied programs and services that public libraries can offer.

During this month, libraries and library partners raise awareness of the valuable role libraries play in our lives.

Annual bus pass available through new disability-assistance supplement

Beginning Jan. 1, 2018, annual bus passes will be available to people on disability assistance through a new transportation supplement.

People who have the Persons with Disabilities (PWD) designation can use the new supplement for an annual bus pass or for other transportation needs, such as HandyDART.

As individual needs can change over time the supplement will also provide flexibility. People can apply for the B.C. Bus Pass at any time during the year. They can also cancel their bus pass at any time and use the supplement for other transportation costs.
